Troubleshoot Shared Drive Connection and Penta Issues

Attempting to access shared network folders (or Penta) too quickly after the computer has connected to the internet is the most common cause of problems.

This can happen when you first boot up your computer or if the computer has just woken from a sleep state.

When our computers receive an internet connection, it can take up to 1 minute before the computer establishes a VPN connection to our network.

The quickest solution is often restarting the computer and then waiting about 1 minute before attempting to access either resource.

Alternatively, to avoid restarting you can attempt to restart the VPN service manually:

1. Right-click the start menu or taskbar and click on Task Manager

2. Enter your password at the prompt

3. Click the “Services” tab (you may need to click “more details” first)

4. Tap the letter “O” to quickly find the OpenVPN services

5. Right-click “OpenVPNService” and click restart.

Make sure to wait about a minute before re-attempting to access the resource.

You can check the status of the network connection at any time:

  1. Right-click the start menu and click Network Connections

  1. Click on “Change Adapter Options”

  1. Here there should be an adapter labeled “SOL-UVPN” with the network status below

The status will read ‘sol.contisolar.com’ whenever you are connected to the network.  Anything else, means the connection has not yet been established (while trying, it will say “identifying”) or there is another problem which requires further investigation.

Issues due to home networks

Sometimes certain networks conflict with our network settings and this requires IT to connect to your computer and adjust the network settings.  In these cases, a mobile hotspot may be a quick temporary workaround, or you can try to access the network directly by using the network address 10.81.1.66 as shown below:
