Troubleshooting display issues

Issues extending your computer display to external monitors are usually resolved by

1. Adjusting your display settings

2. Resetting the docking station by removing the power adapter both from the wall and from the docking station for a few seconds.

3. Resetting the computer

Adjusting display settings:

Right-click the desktop and select Display Settings.  If the computer detects other monitors they will appear on this screen with numbers on each display.  Select each display where there is an issue and scroll down to set the computer to “Extend desktop to this display”.

If no other external monitors are detected, try resetting the docking station and/or the computer.

In most cases, one or more of the above steps will resolve the issue.

If none of the above steps have resolved the issue, then the problem is either bad display cables, a faulty docking station or a faulty port on the physical computer. Try the following:

Test the computer port is by trying another docking station with different display cables.

Test each display cable by bypassing the dock and connecting each monitor directly into the Surface pro’s display power located above the main power port.f the monitors are detected when directly connected to the Surface, then the issue is most likely a faulty docking station (rare case).  Please reach out to IT for a replacement.
